Ingredients:
1 day-old baguette, cut diagonally into slices 3/4 inch thick
6 eggs, lightly beaten
2 cups half & half
1 T vanilla
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp gound nutmeg
2 T light brown sugar
unsalted butter for grilling
Confectioners' sugar for dusting
Maple sugar for serving
Instructions:
In a shallow baking dish, arrange bread slices in a single layer.

In a mixing bowl, combine eggs, half & half, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg & brown sugar & whisk until blended.

Pour mixture over bread & let stand 1-2 minutes to absorb liquid.

Turn each piece over & allow bread to absorb all of the liquid, 1-2 minutes more.

Preheat a griddle & coat generously with butter. When hot, grill bread (do not overcrowd griddle) until golden & crisp, 3-4 minutes per side. Transfer to a warmed platter, dust with confectioners' sugar & serve immediately with maple syrup alongside.

Serves 4.
